Caterpillar introduces autonomous machine plans for construction

Caterpillar used its January 2026 CES announcements to describe how it plans to extend decades of autonomous mining experience into construction. The company outlined intelligent capabilities for excavators, loaders, haul trucks, dozers and compactors, with site systems intended to coordinate equipment and workflows. The proposed systems combine machine perception, positioning and real-time data processing. Caterpillar framed the work around safer operation and more consistent productivity in complex construction environments, while noting that autonomy builds on long-running research and field deployments.
